ProWeld stock a huge range of Hand Taps in Metric, Metric Fine, UNF, UNC & BSP.
A tap cuts a thread on the inside surface of a hole, creating a female surface which functions like a nut.
There is seldom a requirement for a Bottom Tap (final/finish tap) as a Taper tap will give you a very good thread if the tap is allowed to go the entire way through the hole followed by using a Plug Tap (second/middle tap).
However, if you are threading a blind hole a Bottom Tap will be required.
Our taper taps generally have between 8 to 10 tapered threads.
A taper tap is most often used when the material to be tapped is difficult to work (e.g., alloy steel) or the tap is of a very small diameter and thus prone to breakage.
Your material should always be drilled before tapping, if you are not sure about which drill size to use we are always happy to advise you.
All ProWeld taps & dies are high quality German manufactured tools from RUKO or Scott.
