Cobalt drill bits are really just HSS drill bits with and added content of 5% cobalt. Be careful not to buy cheap imitations from DIY shops, as they are merely coated with a gold coloured metallic paint. You will be disappointed that you did not buy quality cobalt drill bits from a German manufacturer such as Ruko.

The Cobalt drill bit is made from heavy duty high speed steel with 5% cobalt added to the steel.

The cobalt drill bit has a higher heat resistance and hardness for longer tool life.

This drill bit is used for drilling unalloyed and alloyed steel, hot and cold working steel, reinforced and case hardened steel and steel resistant to rust or acid.

ProWeld Tip – Cobalt bits are excellent, but when using in a power drill they can snap easy because they are more brittle than usual
