Chamfering & Chop saws

This week’s blog post focuses on chamfering and chop saws. A chamfer is a transitional edge between two faces of an object. This term is commonly used in manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Where a beveled edge is a sloped edge that is not perpendicular to the faces of an object, a chamfered edge is a little bit different. The edge of a chamfered piece of metal is curved. This process eases the otherwise sharp edges of metal bar for both safety and to prevent damage to the edges of metal. Chamfering the edges of a metal bar removes the burr from the end of the bar.

Benefits of chamfering are

  • Easier handling of metal
  • Improving your production rate by allowing you to feed metal into your machines more efficiently

Our quality chamfering machines allow varying degrees of bevelling to give your project work that great finished look and feel. One such chamfering product available at ProWeld is the Nitto Kohki Electric Hand Beveler HB-15B.

Compact portable models meet your versatile chamfering jobs.

The Nitto Kohki HB-15B Hand Beveler is ideal for plate, pipe, and tube chamfering for welding preparation. It is capable of a chamfer width up to 15mm at a 45 degree angle using multiple passes.

Indexable inserts have four working edges for good economy, and the machine leaves a finish so fine that post-sanding is unnecessary. High speed cutting action minimizes material hardening. This machine is available in both 110V and 220V versions.

A chop saw is a power tool made especially for accurate crosscutting of trim and lumber at various angles. Most woodworkers or cabinetmakers use chop saws to make precise square cuts as they are working. There are some types of chop saws that can also be used to make bevel or angled cuts.

There are several advantages to using a chop saw, and its precise cuts are at the top of the list. It is also faster to use than a circular saw.
